"Meat" from Wheat

Now I know that sounds funny but it is great for food storage because it is made from stuff that is on hand and with just a little bouillon and seasoning you will not tell the difference.

"Meat" from Wheat
8 cups Wheat
2 cups water
Mix the wheat and water together. Knead and beat for about 15 minutes.
Cover with ice water for an hour.
Rinse dough with hot water until it is firm and all the bran( which feels like sand) has been
washed out. Water will be almost clear.
Let the dough drain for 30 minutes.
Then you will favor it with,
2 Tablespoons bouillon(chicken or beef)
1 Tablespoon soy sauce
4 teaspoons seasoned salt
1 teaspoon pepper
1/2 cup onions
Mix all the ingredients together and bring to a boil.
Add the gluten pieces and simmer for 30 minutes.
From there you can make just about any dish that calls for meat, meatless.

Spoon Bread

Because I don't add refrigerated biscuits to my skillet pot pie, I like to make this and add it to the meal. This bread is great for food stores because it does not use any dairy.

Spoon Bread
1cup all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
oil for deep frying
( I don't deep fry them)
Mix ingredients together; add in 3/4 cup water.
Drop by tablespoonfuls into a heavy skillet filled with about a inch of hot oil
just coat the bottom of pan
Flip over when bubbles form along the edges
Heat until golden on both sides
If you are not sure they are done, they will look like
english muffins on the inside

Skillet Chicken Pot Pie

I have been learning to cook with my food storage for the past year and this is one of the first recipes that I learned. I make it a little different from the recipe that I was given but it is still good and it does not take long to make.

Skillet Chicken Pot Pie
1 lb.chicken ( I use two 14 oz. cans of turkey)
1-1/2 to 2 cups of any veggie you like most
1 cup uncooked pasta of your choice
1 can plus 1-1/2 cup water or milk (I like milk)
now it calls for refrigerated biscuits to be add 10 minutes before done
but I dont add them til it is done
So you put everything in but the biscuits in the skillet over medium heat.
Bring to a boil; lower the heat, cover and simmer
for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally
this serves 4
